You hear in the news and on the commercials that heart disease is the #1 killer among women now. Why is it we are dying from heart disease and what can we do about it?

Do you really think that becel margarine is the answer? Margarine isn’t a real food, it is man made not natural. They say you can put in in the yard or in your garage and the mice or animals won’t even eat it. I read that it is one of the closest food to plastic we can get. Then there is the pink ribbon campaigns to help end heart disease. Can we really find the answer in another pill that most research money is going into?

I think the answer lies in what we put in our mouths. Vitamin C for instance is a heart protector that we don’t hear much about. The recommended daily allowance is so low it might keep us from getting scurvy but is it going to help with heart health? I don’t thinks so. There are so many things that deplete it and it is one vitamin that we have to keep replenishing in our bodies daily to keep us nutritionally healthy.

I think we are eating way too much of the wrong kind of fats, lack of nutrition from the right kinds of foods and stress. This world is full of stress and we need to slow down and start thinking about our health. After all if you don’t, no one is going to do it for you.

Fibro Stomach Pain and Food

If you suffer from digestive upset such as pain, acid reflex, diarrhea or constipation why don’t you look at your diet first. It could be a certain food you are eating that you could eliminate rather than take pills or laxatives. When it comes to Fibromyalgia, there are multi things going on and one of them will be a food intolerance of some sort if you are suffering from symptoms. We are what we eat.

A lot of people don’t realize that health and mood has anything to do with what we put into our mouths. It is by far the most important thing that you can do is to identify what you are eating with your symptoms. We all need to eat a balanced, healthful meal that is suited for our unique body and blood type. We are all different and our needs and reactions to foods are all unique. You need to identify your unique formula to digestive health, there isn’t one formula that works for everyone, if it did, we would all be identical. There is however some simple rules that everyone could follow

When I was first diagnosed with Fibromyalgia I didn’t realize that the stomach pains I suffered from were related to the wheat and dairy I ate. I was taught in school that they were healthy for you. Now that I have experienced the symptoms with consuming certain food I can tell you, it can be detrimental to your health.

I was diagnosed with neuropathy (nerve pain) and carpal tunnel, given prescriptions for it when in reality it was the wheat I was eating. I knew I was celiac but I didn’t realize it was hidden in a lot of foods I was still consuming. A dietician told me I could eat spelt and kamut flour when it is actually full of gluten too. I was at a point that my hands hurt so bad and my feet hurt to walk on them and here it was all from wheat.

Flour can give such a wide variety of symptoms, it is never really considered as a culprit. Think about it, gluten. Glue to your insides. Remember in school, they
made glue out of white flour and water. If you have chronic gut aches, diarrhea or constipation, consider wheat as a culprit. 

Some hidden sources  are:

  • yogurt with fruit

  • ketchup

  • lunch meats

  • cheese spreads

  • salad dressings

  • canned soups

  • soy sauce

  • Worcestershire sauce

  • prepared foods

  • corn chips

  • candy and even licorice. 

Other sources not so obvious

  • distilled white vinegar

  • hydrolyzed vegetable protein

  • malt or malt flavouring

  • modified starch or modified food starch

  • monoglyceride and diglycerides

  • products that list “natural” or “artificial” flavorings”

  • red or yellow food dyes

  • vegetable gum or vegetable protein

Milk is the next culprit to look at.

Lets look at some staple food that are overlooked as to how healthy they really are and should be in everyone’s diet:

Onions

In the Doctors book of food remedies it says onions can help

  • raise beneficial HDL cholesterol

  • lowers blood pressure

  • decrease the risk of cancer

  • relieve congestion

  • reduce inflammation

Some onions are so sweet too. Eat them raw, add them to salads, add them to
everything you cook with. They say onions and other members of the allium family such as leeks, shallots and scallions contain dozens of compounds that provide protection from other conditions including cancer, high blood pressure, heart disease, high cholesterol and asthma.

Celery

Can help:

  • reduce high blood pressure

  • lower risk of cancer

  • insoluble fiber

  • essential nutrients including potassium, vitamin C and calcium


Interesting facts: The ancient Romans, notorious party animals wore wreaths of
celery to protect the from hangovers which may explain the practice of celery
sticks in Bloody Mary’s.

Carrots

Can help:

  • improve night vision

  • reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease

  • prevent certain cancers

  • lower cholesterol

  • prevent heart attacks

Carrots are rich in beta-carotene, an antioxidant compound that fights free radicals that even contributes to aging.

Apples

Can help:

  • lower the risk of heart disease

  • prevent constipation

  • control diabetes

  • prevent cancer

Most of the healing power of apples are in the skin which contain about 4 milligrams of a compound called quercetin.

Berries

Can help:

  • prevent cataracts

  • ward off cancer

  • prevent constipation

  • reduce the risk of infection

Berries contain a compound called ellagic acid which is believed to help prevent
cellular changes that lead to cancer. Strawberries and black berries having the
most.

Broccoli

King of crucifers

Can help:

  • protect against heart disease

  • fight off cancer

  • boost immunity

  • osteoporosis

Broccoli contains not just one but two separate compounds

  • indole-3-carbinol (or I3C, for short)

  • sulforaphane – that help sweep up cancer causing substances before they have a chance to do harm

  • beta-carotene

  • vitamin c

  • calcium

  • folate (normal tissue growth)

Could There Be a Link to Antidepressants Like Cymbalta and Lyrica?

What a complicated and frustrating condition Fibromyalgia can be,  getting
diagnosed. There is so much constant, severe, unexplained pain with Fibro, it is
sometimes even hard for the sufferer to believe that someone could possibly be
in that much pain and  fatigue without a reason why.


It can be met with doubt and scepticism from doctors who believe it is in the
patients head which can be quite defeating for a patient who is seriously
suffering. 


The mystery of Fibro can cause a lot of emotional turmoil in a patients life.
The unknown is hard to deal with. When you don’t know what is causing your pain,
you can’t fix it which leads to a lot of frustration, you lose all hope.


There are multiple symptoms, fatigue, pain all over, muscle pain, tender points,
sleep difficulties, brain fog, digestive disorders to name a few. It is
miserable.


The list of symptoms seems to grow as we gain more awareness of Fibromyalgia.
When you experience the same symptoms and your life is disappearing as the years
go by. Nothing you have tried has made any difference in your condition and you
have no answers, it starts to play on your soul. 


This is why it is so important to have a good support system, someone who
understands and believes you are having pain. This type of support could be very
helpful for those who feel suicidal.


You have to believe that you will get through this, that there is a way to gain
your strength back and reduce some of the pain and discomfort. They are finding
more answers everyday.


Don’t go it alone, we all need help sometimes. Make sure you seek out the right
kind. You don’t want to find a group of depressed people to get you out of your
depression.


Finding a support group, a friend, a  family member, a therapist, an
inspirational group, dr, naturopath dr, homeopathic dr or a church can be a good
place to look for support. Whatever works within your beliefs. Watch a comedy
every night if that is what it takes. Remember, it is only temporary, whatever
it is, it will pass and you will get through it, actually, you did get through
it, you are here and you are alive.

Natural Pain Relief for Fibromyalgia

There is so much pain in Fibromyalgia. The worst being the unknown. When you suffer from the severe chronic pain one can experience from Fibromyalgia it can be so overwhelming to the patient who has no support or no one who really understands.

It is even harder when you have a critical doctor who doesn’t take your pain
seriously enough. When you are in the dark about all the pain it is hard to function. I can help with a few simple natural remedies that can help you through your crisis.

  • Find a new doctor who understands and believes you.

  • Find someone to talk to who is compassionate and believes you are experiencing real and debilitating pain.

  • Use ice on the painful muscles.

  • Stop using the painful muscle until you have stretched it out to relieve the
    pain. If stretching doesn’t do it, you need to use ice, have a bath in Epsom salts, relax or sleep it off. If you keep working a tight muscle it will
    continue to get into a bigger ball of pain. We are only human and repetitive
    work leads to strained muscles.

  • Stay off the couch! Couches keep you in bad posture and only add to painful
    muscles.

  • Keep your body fit. I know it is hard when you are in pain but from experience, your pain will increase with time if you don’t. Even walking will help. Stretching is best.

  • Be aware of what could be causing you the pain and don’t let yourself get to
    that point. An example is when I am on the computer too long, I experience
    pain in the center of my back, my neck, shoulders and wrists. Be aware of
    how you are sitting, the position of your neck, your shoulders and feet. We
    should be taught good posture in school and how to maintain it. Bad posture
    accounts for a lot of pain and discomfort.

  • Diet is major. A simple solution, eat to survive, don’t live to eat. Natural
    whole foods are best, lots of nutritious fresh foods that are not
    genetically modified. We are digestive enzyme deficient. Eat some live food
    with every meal to help digest it. Stay away from McDonalds! Diet is like
    drugs, hard to get off addictive foods. My advice is one day at a time. If
    you drink those double double Tim Horton’s coffees, cut down 1/2 teaspoon of sugar a day or a week until you can go without it.

  • Don’t rely on caffeine to get you going, it is like sugar, a quick high to
    an abrupt low. Get your body working on it’s own without relying on caffeine or red bull to get you going. If you are that bad, you need to take some R & R time. Get your adrenals checked.

  • If you live in the North and experience pain when it rains or snows, or
    arthritis, try some heat and wish for sunshine and dry weather. They blamed
    all my pain on Fibromyalgia when in fact a lot of it was from the weather.
    My condition can change over night. I was always wondering what I did to
    have so much more pain today than yesterday when in fact it wasn’t me, it
    was the weather.

  •  Vitamin D is our sunshine Vitamin, with out it we can become depressed, SAD and all research is pointing to cancers from lack of Vitamin D. When the sun shines, get outside and absorb 20 minutes of it.

  • Avoid conflict, stress only adds to injury. You need to have a healthy
    relationship with the least amount of stress as possible. It isn’t healthy
    for anyone. If you have conflict, avoid those people, if your job is too
    stressful, seriously consider a change. Even a pay cut is worth it if you
    make a change that removes the stress from your job or a psychopathic boss.

I don’t know about Google new rules, I did a search for Ontario Organic Foods and the first thing that came up were the sponsored programs below:

1. The Ontario Flu Shot Program by the Health.gov.on.ca  What the ??? Can we get anymore less organic? Are they trying to deceive the public deliberately? Why is it in the organic search?

2. Health Foods / All-Bran.ca came up next. It’s not organic, it can be painful for
some people who are allergic or those who have celiac and known to cause inflammation in a lot of people.

3. Health Food / Dairygoodness.ca was googles third choice. Again, not organic and not so healthy for a lot of people and a lot of reasons. Casein, pesticides,
antibiotics, dioxins, allergies, diabetes to name a few. Is this googles viewpoint on health?

4. Healthy Weight Loss Diet / Herbalmagic.ca. I cannot explain this one, are they
organic food?

5. Yorkshire Valley Farms – Fresh Organic Meat / yorkshirevalley.com. Yaaa, finally an Ontario Organic Food.

6. Optimally Organic – Raw & Organic Superfoods & Minerals. So this company runs out of Los Angeles County, at least they are Organic.

7. Raw Organic Superfoods / Blue Mountain Organics.com. Based out of Floyd Virginia, at least they are organic too.

So out of 7 paid sponsors, googles allows 6 to be top that have nothing to do with
Ontario Organic Foods. I was able to find one but it was only meat.

Fibromyalgia fatigue and hormonal health

This is very important and not taken seriously enough by doctors. I want to share my experience with fatigue that may help many women and men as well. I went through major stress of family illness and death as well as all my injury and illness. I was to the point that I was so fatigued, so exhausted. I asked my doctors over and over again but to no avail, “it’s the Fibromyalgia”. What exactly does that mean anyways? Do we give something a name so we can blame everything on it? I was desperate from the overwhelming feeling of being totally drained, it was hard to stand and even breathing was a chore. I was starting to think I had cancer like my mom.

I went to my gynecologist Dr Pettle who practices natural medicines and
specializes in hormone health. He told me my adrenals were so low they were
close to shutting down. I was also low in progesterone and testosterone as well. He prescribed a natural remedy for my adrenals and progesterone and I
started coming back to life, my well being was returning. Could Fibromyalgia fatigue be hormonal? 

I gave the results to my general practitioner and his reply was, “oh, that isn’t too bad. My adrenals were in the range of a 90 year old and he said that wasn’t too bad. I felt like I was dying and he wasn’t too concerned about it. That is why this is so important for me to relay this to you. Is your doctor being honest with you? Your adrenal health is overlooked in general medicine, not important enough to be tested for, yet so important to your well being.

Hormone health is so vital and can make such a difference to your health, yet so neglected. I am telling you that if you feel so fatigued like the life is being sucked out of you, like you can’t fill the tank at all anymore no matter what you try. I heard on the news yesterday something that is incredibly ironic. Loblaw’s chief
Galen Weston said “Farmers’ markets are great………One day they’re going to
kill some people though”.

Isn’t that amazing from a guy who sells food that is known to cause all kinds of chronic disease, allergies, heart disease and indigestion problems. From genetically modified, high fat, highly sugared, highly salted, aspartame, msg, preservatives, chemicals, dyes, empty calorie and junk disguised as foods but has the audacity to say that local grown, fresh, unadulterated foods such as fruit and vegetables are going to kill some people????

I am outraged and you should be too. We now even have to watch the supermarket’s vegetables as the FDA finds it okay to spray our vegetables with a film called MAP to keep them fresh. It is amazing what they think is okay to spray our foods with to keep it fresh longer. Wouldn’t you rather have a piece of lettuce that is a bit brown on the end instead of a plastic coating made out of god only knows what?

Here are some of the allowable plastic sprays that the FDA allows on our fresh produce. So that is why your lettuce can last so long. It is due to what the FDA calls the edible packaging systems which alters the normal composition of air.. This is why we can leave an apple on the counter now and it still looks the same 4
weeks later, it’s not natural.

– 78% nitrogen

– 21% oxygen

– .03% carbon dioxide and traces of noble gases

They also use an array of things like:

– casein

– soy

– zein

Edible films can create a very low O2 environment where anaerobic pathogens such as C. botulinum may thrive, so antimicrobial compounds can be incorporated into the coating such as:

– zeolite

– isothiocyanate in cyclodextrin with cobalt ion

– chitosan

– allyl isothiocyanate

– silver-based fungicide

– quaternary ammonium salt

I can’t believe it could be on my lettuce or fruit now. It’s hard enough to avoid it in foods I didn’t know I would have to worry about my fruits and vegetables.


Polysaccharide Barriers

– Pectin generally made from low-methoxyl pectin, calcium chloride, a plasticizer and sometimes organic acids

– Chitosan

– derivatived of cellulose, compromised of the sodium salt of carboxymethyl
cellulose with sucrose fatty acid ester as the emulsifiers

– carrageenan coatings – sucessfully used on cut grapefruit halved not yet
approved by FDA (of course, it is extracted from several species of red
seaweeds, something natural. Chemicals are okay though.)

Recently, concerns about possible pathogen contamination in MAP produce have focused on L. monocytogenes due to its ability to grow at refrigeration temperatures. Numerous researchers have reported that this organism can remain largely unaffected by MAP, while the normal microflora is inhibited. Thus, although MAP produce can remain organoleptically acceptable, L. monocytogenes, with a reduced microflora and, especially if low levels of lactic acid bacteria are present, can grow at low temperatures to potentially harmful levels during the extended storage life of a MAP produce product.

There are a lot of people with Fibromyalgia suffering with stomach pain . There are several reasons for the pain and you should investigate them all until you come up with an answer to your pain. We are all different and there is no one cure all for everyone.

2. Endometriosis can cause a lot of lower abdominal pain as well as Fibromyalgia.
This video I was watching shows a connection that Endometriosis could be
connected to getting a blow to the stomach.

When I was about 10, I was a pitcher on our baseball team and I took a line drive right to the stomach. Boy, it took my breath away especially being about 60 lbs. I
always had a pain in my lower abdomen after that especially when I was running.
I eventually lost my ovary due to a cyst and then suffered with endometriosis.
Could there be a connection?

3. Chronic abdominal pain
has to be evaluated to rule out anything serious. It could be referred pain from
another organ such as liver, colon, stomach, small and large intestines, gall
bladder, pancreas or kidneys. If you have ruled out any serious cause and it is
diagnosed a part of your Fibromyalgia you need to take a serious look at your
diet. The thing you crave most is usually the culprit. Things you say you
couldn’t live without, well, you could live longer or with less pain if you take
them out of your diet.

The best place to start is
with water. When you wake up in the morning, drink two glasses of water to help
clean your colon out. If you have plugged up plumbing, how can you possibly have
a good day carrying around all that extra baggage? It only leads to long term
problems like diverticulitis, polyps or even cancer. I believe it causes
exhaustion and stomach problems at least.

Live whole food such as
fruits and vegetables can help you digest your food better. The average diet is
lacking in digestive enzymes since we McDonaldized out food.

If you suffer from stomach
aches, take out the preservatives, dyes, chemicals and genetically modified food
out of your diet and add healing foods, you’ll be glad you did.
